Ilorin—AbdulRazaq Ajani, a former controller of works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, was killed on New Year’s Day in Ilorin, Kwara State.
After returning home from a vacation to Offa, Kwara State, where he celebrated the Christmas holiday with his family, he reportedly got kicked.
According to information obtained by Vanguard Correspondent, Ajani was allegedly attacked at approximately 3 p.m. by his attackers, who followed him to his home on Dele Gege Street, Aderoju neighborhood, off Awolowo Road in the Tanke neighborhood of Ilorin, following the Christmas party.
The assassins nonchalantly entered Ajani’s compound shortly after he drove in with his close family, according to family members who spoke to reporters at the residence.
According to the family member who wished to remain anonymous, “four young men, ages 18 to 22, arrived in the area in an unclear manner.”
“An examination of CCTV footage revealed that two of them were standing next to Mr. Ajani’s house gate, one of them drinking water from a plastic bottle, while the other two entered the compound.
The retired federal officer allegedly got up to greet the young men at the main door after spotting them in one of the two sitting rooms on the ground floor of the one-story duplex building.He tried to flee and close the door against his assailants when he realized he was in danger, but it was too late. He was prevented from closing the door by their hasty approach.
Before one of the attackers began axing him on the head, they seemed to be having a conversation with him. He was axed more than ten times before he was discovered on the ground, face down.
After completing their horrific mission, the assassins quickly left the area before the neighbors became aware of the family members’ cries.
As soon as the late engineer arrived from Offa, where he had gone for Christmas and New Year’s vacation, he was ambushed and hacked to death in front of his wife and kids.When you arrive to his residence, his brain is strewn all over the floor, and the walls are stained with blood.
“While a group of police officers visited the scene to conduct an investigation, many people besieged the man’s home out of sympathy for the wife and children.”
Unbeknownst to the victim and his family, the CCTV cameras on the main gate that would have captured the attackers’ faces were taken down long before the Wednesday attack, according to information obtained by Vanguard Correspondent.
Only the CCTV camera that remained inside was able to record the scenes as they were shown on the cameras.
The late retired Controller had two wives, according to sources, and was with the younger one and their kids at the time of the unfortunate event.
The police had already evacuated the body and departed when this reporter got to the house following the event.
Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the Kwara Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the event when contacted. I can attest to the fact that yesterday there was a report of the death of a retired controller of works in the Tanke area. Police have entered the scene and are looking into the event.
