KOSIEC Issues Election Notice for 2026 LG Polls in Kogi, Sets October 17 as Voting Day

LOKOJA — Wednesday, October 22, 2025: The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has formally released the Notice of Election for Chairmanship and Councillorship polls across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, fixing Saturday, October 17, 2026 for voting.

Announcing the notice at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, KOSIEC Chairman Hon. Mamman Nda Eri said the action complies with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 and provisions of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2025. He noted the publication meets the statutory requirement to issue notice not later than 360 days before the election date.

Full timetable due Friday

KOSIEC will on Friday, October 24, 2025, publish a comprehensive timetable and schedule of activities covering party primaries, submission of candidate lists, publication of nominated candidates, campaign windows, and other pre-election milestones.

Who can contest?

The Chairman emphasized that only political parties registered and recognized by INEC are eligible to sponsor candidates, in line with the Electoral Act and KOSIEC Law. He urged parties, aspirants, and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the timetable, laws, and guidelines to ensure free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections statewide.

Where to file nomination papers

According to KOSIEC, nomination papers for Chairmen and Councillors are to be delivered to the Commission’s headquarters at No. 1 Ado Ibrahim Road, GRA, Lokoja.
