INEC Uploads 97.5% of Anambra Governorship Election Results to Portal

AWKA, Nigeria News Today — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 97.50 per cent of results from the Anambra State governorship election have been successfully uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), The Bureau News reports.
As of 7:39 p.m. on Saturday, checks on the official INEC website showed that out of the 5,718 polling units where voting took place, results from 5,577 units had been uploaded.
The election featured 18 candidates — 16 men and two women — representing different political parties across the state.
Among the top contenders are the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC); and George Nnadubem Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP).
Other candidates include Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Paul Chukwuka Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), and others representing minor political platforms.
According to INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Dayo Oketola, the exercise has been widely commended for its organisation, transparency, and smooth coordination.
“With reports of seamless operations, strong security coordination, and near-total PVC collection, both domestic and international observers have described the Anambra governorship election as a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a clear testament to renewed confidence in INEC’s leadership and electoral integrity,” Oketola said.
However, some candidates and political stakeholders alleged incidents of vote-buying in parts of the state, even as voters turned out in large numbers to elect a new governor.
