According to Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, the accident happened on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.

He revealed that the accident happened near Obajana Market on Obajana-Lokoja Road in the state’s Lokoja Local Government Area. It involved a commercial Sharon bus and an articulated cement truck.

According to the sector commander, the cement truck lost its brakes and collided with the Sharon bus from behind when it was following it around the market for passengers to make purchases.

“The bus caught fire as soon as the truck crashed into it, burning almost every passenger inside,” the man claimed.

“The bus, two trucks, and a motorcycle were also set ablaze.”

According to reports, the bus was traveling from the country’s south to Abuja.

Because of the intensity of the fire, our staff members who were participating in rescue activities alongside Red Cross Nigeria and police officials were unable to preserve the situation.

He said, “But the two injured people were taken to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana for medical attention, while the charred remains of the affected persons were collected.”

Oyedeji voiced concern that if no relatives showed up, the authorities could be forced to give the scorched corpses a mass burial because no hospital in Kogi was willing to accept them.

The sector commander issued a warning to drivers against speeding and improper car maintenance, calling the incident “very sad and unfortunate.”

In order to prevent traffic accidents, he says drivers should always make sure everything in their cars is in working order before setting out on a journey.
