The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has strongly condemned the actions of politicians impeding the progress of government projects, emphasizing his commitment to safeguarding public interests over the personal agendas of politicians.
Expressing his displeasure, Wike criticized a member of the House of Representatives for obstructing an ongoing project in the Guzape District of the FCT for personal gains. During an inspection of various road projects, including those handled by Gilmour Construction and Julius Berger Construction, Wike revealed that the lawmaker had arbitrarily ordered the halt of the project without following due process.
Wike asserted, “We are not going to take it lightly. This is not a private project; it is a public project, handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. If there is any complaint, we think that whoever is responsible should complain to us and not go and use the police to stop a legitimate company from constructing work for the use of the public, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council.”
He further directed the contractors to resume work and disregard the unwarranted stoppage, emphasizing the importance of completing the projects for public use. The Minister anticipates that the projects will be ready for commissioning by President Muhammadu Buhari in May.
