OBEIBA-IHIMA, KOGI STATE – Tension is rising in Kogi Central following a disturbing revelation by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who disclosed that armed men recently raided her family’s ancestral home in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State.
In a statement issued by her media team in Abuja on Thursday, the lawmaker explained that the Tuesday night attack targeted the residence of her late grandfather shortly after her younger brother visited the area with contractors to inspect sites for constituency projects.
“Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima to inspect locations for upcoming projects that I attracted to my senatorial district,” she said.
“The unknown gunmen assumed I was the one in town and attacked my family’s house that night.”
The attack, which was reportedly repelled by members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and local community vigilantes, did not result in any casualties. However, the property was vandalized, heightening concerns about the safety of the senator and her relatives.
A report has since been filed at the Police Area Command, and investigations are said to be ongoing.
The senator urged the Inspector General of Police to urgently reinstate her official security detail, stressing that her life and the lives of her loved ones are at risk due to her political engagements and visible leadership in the region.
“We urge the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate my security details,” the statement read.
“My commitment to serving my people should not be met with violence and intimidation.”
The statement further called on the public to remain calm and continue supporting efforts to bring sustainable development to Kogi Central.
Senator Natasha, known for her vocal advocacy and grassroots development efforts, has faced several threats since emerging as the first elected female senator from Kogi State.
