Prominent women leaders from the North Central geopolitical zone have come out strongly in defence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, condemning what they described as a wave of falsehoods, propaganda, and gender-targeted attacks against the Kogi Central lawmaker.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja under the banner of the North Central Women Front (NCWF), the women called on the Nigerian Senate leadership to resist actions that tarnish the country’s global image, referencing the six-month suspension placed on Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The group, led by Mrs. Mary Adamu, described the suspension as internationally embarrassing and accused some politicians and commentators of working to destroy a rising female political leader for selfish gains.
“The attacks from people like Prof. Sandra Duru, popularly known as ‘Mgbeke’, are nothing but mad imaginings, deception, and fantasy,” the group said. “Some male politicians in this country are resorting to desperate, dishonest tactics to fight women who refuse to be submissive.”
The statement also took aim at Blessing Agbomhere, the APC South-South Organizing Secretary, labeling his comments as banal and irrelevant. In addition, they criticized Fidelis Ella of Executive Watch Dog for “advertising his ignorance” through false accusations and public misinformation.
“These individuals—Mgbeke, Ella, and Agbomhere—are nothing more than parrots and bootlickers of anti-democratic forces,” the group declared. “Unstable people like them are ready to destroy anyone for political appointments, contracts, or petty cash.”
The women applauded Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for her courage, patriotism, and refusal to be emotionally manipulated, describing her as a symbol of strength and commitment in the ongoing quest for national development.
“Natasha has made history and continues to impact Kogi Central positively. She is guided by patriotic commitment and dedication to national progress,” said Mrs. Adamu.
The statement further warned supporters of certain high-ranking politicians—including the Senate President and a former ministerial nominee—not to plunge Nigeria into chaos and confusion through intolerant and dishonest politics.
They also dismissed as foolish talk the conspiracy theory alleging a plot to “dismantle Yoruba government” and destabilize Nigeria.
“Such statements are baseless and designed to incite division. We reject all forms of intolerance, lies, and perversion of the truth,” the women added.
The North Central Women Front concluded by urging Nigerians to stand firm against political blackmail and media propaganda, and to support leaders like Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan who are committed to truth, justice, and progress.
