Our Taxes Are Meant to Create a System, Not to Frustrate Nigerians – VP

by Ohepo Ohepo

Vice President Kashim Shettima has asserted that the tax reforms initiated under President Bola Tinubu’s administration aim to enhance Nigeria’s fiscal system for the benefit of all citizens. Addressing concerns that the reforms might impede economic sectors, Shettima, represented by Aliyu Moddibo Umar, Special Adviser to the President on General Duties, clarified the administration’s intentions during a retreat in Abuja.

At the closing session of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee held at the Transcorp Hilton, the Vice President emphasized the administration’s focus on revitalizing revenue generation while maintaining a competitive business environment conducive to investment.

“Our aim remains the revitalization of revenue generation in Nigeria while sustaining an investment-friendly and globally competitive business environment,” Shettima stated.

He also expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to effectively implement the reforms, highlighting the transition from planning to the action phase of the committee’s efforts. Shettima assured that both federal and state governments are prepared to support the implementation of the committee’s recommendations, aligning them with the national economic agenda.

“We are gathered today because we are transitioning from the phase of proposal in the operations of this committee’s work to the phase of implementation,” he noted, underscoring the critical nature of the reforms in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
