In a bold move to strengthen food security and rural development, the Kano State Government has recruited 1,038 agricultural extension workers and support staff into the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented employment letters to the successful candidates during a flag-off ceremony held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, on Monday.
The governor said the new recruits are expected to modernize farming practices, support rural farmers, and ensure sustainable agricultural growth across the state.
Yusuf Warns Against Corruption, Charges Workers with Responsibility
According to a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to the governor, Yusuf urged the newly employed workers to demonstrate integrity, commitment, and professionalism in their new roles.
“You must shun absenteeism, laziness, misconduct, and any form of corruption,” he warned.
“As frontline ambassadors of agricultural transformation, your conduct will directly impact our mission to revitalize farming and empower rural communities.”
Governor Yusuf added that the recruits would help introduce modern agricultural methods, improve access to quality inputs, and serve as a bridge between government initiatives and local farmers.
Kano Leads in Agricultural Workforce Development
While acknowledging Kano’s leading role in agricultural extension services, Governor Yusuf said the recruitment was necessary to further strengthen KNARDA under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
“We are building a new generation of field workers who will bring innovative solutions to our farms and cooperatives,” the governor said.
“They are the change agents of a new era in agriculture and agribusiness.”
Officials Commend Milestone Effort
Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, the Commissioner for Agriculture, said the new hires would enhance food production and increase household income, aligning with the governor’s food security agenda.
Also speaking, Hajiya Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Chairperson of the Kano Civil Service Commission, described the recruitment as a “giant stride” toward transforming the state’s agricultural landscape.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Speaking on behalf of the newly employed workers, Saminu Sani Garba expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity. He pledged their commitment to support Kano’s agricultural transformation.
“Despite thousands of applicants, we were given this chance. We won’t take it for granted,” he said.
