by Ohepo Ohepo

Police authorities have announced the arrest of Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Mandi, the alleged gang leader responsible for the March 2022 attack on the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train. The announcement was made by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during a press briefing in Kaduna.

Abdullahi is also accused of involvement in the 2021 kidnapping of students from Greenfield University. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to address a series of high-profile violent incidents in the region, which have caused widespread concern and called for heightened security measures.

The Abuja-Kaduna train attack, which occurred in March 2022, was a particularly traumatic event, resulting in numerous casualties and drawing national and international condemnation. Similarly, the kidnapping at Greenfield University in 2021 highlighted the severe challenges of banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria, particularly in educational institutions.

ACP Adejobi emphasized the importance of Abdullahi’s arrest, noting that it could provide critical insights into the operations and networks of criminal gangs in the region. The police are continuing their investigations and are committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in these criminal activities are brought to justice.

The arrest is expected to bolster the ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of organized crime that have plagued the country, particularly in the northern regions.
