Fighters from Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), commonly known as Boko Haram, have launched a series of coordinated assaults on Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) positions in northern Borno State.
The attacks, which occurred between December 23 and 24, targeted ISWAP strongholds in Toumbun Gini, Mangari, Toumbun Saje, and Metele. These offensives left numerous ISWAP militants dead and resulted in the capture of equipment and destruction of camps.
Equipment Seized and Camps Destroyed
According to security expert Zagazola Makama, JAS fighters overpowered ISWAP combatants during the raids, seizing 20 motorcycles and decimating several of their camps. The clashes highlight the ongoing rivalry between the two factions, each vying for dominance in the Lake Chad region.
This development underscores the fluid and volatile security dynamics in northern Borno, where both groups continue to pose significant threats to stability and civilian safety.
