Tinubu Declares Nigeria Has Met 2025 Revenue Target, Says Economy Stable and Resilient
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria met its annual revenue target as early as August, declaring that the economy is now stable, resilient, and less vulnerable to external shocks.
The President made the statement while hosting former members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday. The delegation included governors, lawmakers, and political leaders from across the country.
“Nigeria is not borrowing. We have met our revenue target for the year, and we met it in August. Let Trump do his worst, we are stable,” Tinubu said.
Strong Non-Oil Revenues and Exchange Rate Stability
Tinubu attributed the fiscal milestone to improved non-oil revenue performance, noting that reforms have reduced dependence on oil and cushioned Nigeria against global economic pressures.
He further highlighted progress in stabilizing the naira, stating that when he assumed office the exchange rate had climbed to ₦1,900 per dollar, but has now settled around ₦1,450.
“Nobody is trading pieces of paper for exchange rate anymore. You don’t have to know a CBN governor to get forex. All you have to do is export, import, and create jobs,” the President declared.
Focus on Agriculture and Food Security
The President said his administration is prioritizing agriculture as the backbone of long-term economic stability. He revealed that he recently approved a major agricultural mechanisation programme that will be implemented nationwide, complete with training centres and infrastructure.
“We are doing mechanisation and training — that is our backbone: food sovereignty, food security. If we remove hunger, we have defeated poverty,” he added.
CPC Bloc Assures Tinubu of Loyalty
During the meeting, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who led the CPC delegation, pledged the bloc’s total loyalty to the President and dismissed claims that the group was divided.
He praised Tinubu for standing by the Buhari family during the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting the dignity and respect accorded throughout the burial ceremonies.
Former Nasarawa Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, also speaking at the event, thanked Tinubu for what he described as a transparent and loyalty-driven handling of Buhari’s death. He called the Renewed Hope Agenda a “scientific, pragmatic, and rewarding blueprint for national restoration.”
Honouring Buhari’s Legacy
Tinubu also reflected on his long-standing relationship with Buhari and the CPC bloc, recalling merger talks that eventually produced the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He praised Buhari’s honesty, discipline, and transparency, pledging to uphold those values.
The President promised to build a ‘Buhari House’ as a lasting symbol of unity and prosperity in honour of the late leader.
“When I see people like you, my determination is to work harder. We are certain we are going to succeed,” Tinubu said.
