Troops Rescue Nine Kidnapped Victims in Kogi–Kwara Border Operations

Nigeria News Today — Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued nine kidnapped victims during a coordinated night patrol around the Kogi–Kwara border.
The victims, comprising four men and five women, were rescued on October 13 at Essalu community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. They were reportedly abducted from Matoku community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on September 24.
Army Intensifies Rescue Operations
According to military authorities, the victims disclosed that terrorists invaded their community about three weeks earlier, abducting several residents and rustling an unspecified number of cattle.
The successful rescue followed sustained clearance operations by troops across Esanlu, Patigi, Babasango, Etsuyum, and adjoining communities between Kogi and Kwara States.
Officials said the captors abandoned the victims and fled after coming under heavy fire during intensified search-and-rescue operations in the area.

Those rescued include:

- Alhaji Umaru Sarki Fawa, 55
- Labaran Abubakar, 45
- Umar Yanda, 30
- Hassana Muhammad, 25
- Maryam Muhammad, 27
- Aisha Idris, 20
- Zainab Ahmed, 12
The victims were given first aid treatment, fed, and later handed over to the Patigi Local Government Authority for proper care and reunification with their families.
Army Commends Troops’ Efforts
During an operational visit to Lata in Patigi LGA, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division and Commander Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj.-Gen. C.R. Nnebeife, commended the troops for their bravery, professionalism, and inter-agency synergy.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to maintaining peace and security across the nation. We will sustain the momentum until criminal elements are completely neutralised,” he said.
Maj.-Gen. Nnebeife also urged residents to continue sharing credible intelligence with security agencies to aid ongoing counter-terrorism efforts across the North-Central region.
