Shi’ite Sect Members Protest Against Trump’s Invasion Threat in Kano

KANO, Nigeria News Today — Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shi’ites, on Friday, November 8, 2025, took to the streets of Kano to protest against United States President Donald Trump’s recent threat to invade Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
The protesters, clad mostly in black, marched through major roads in the city, carrying placards and banners rejecting Trump’s claims. Some dragged the American flag on the ground, while others displayed effigies of the U.S. President in a dramatic show of defiance.
President Donald Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and directed the U.S. Department of War to prepare a potential military action plan if the Nigerian government failed to stop what he described as “the genocide against Christians.”
Reacting to the comments, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria dismissed Trump’s statement as false, provocative, and misleading, accusing Western nations of spreading propaganda to divide Nigerians along religious lines.
“Our nation’s challenges are not about religion but about leadership failure, corruption, and greed,” said Mallam Abdullahi Musa, one of the protest coordinators, in an interview with The Bureau News. “We reject any form of foreign interference or military threat against Nigeria.”
The group urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to remain firm against external manipulation and focus on improving security, promoting justice, and ensuring peace across the country.
The protest, which drew hundreds of IMN members, ended peacefully under heavy police presence, with security officials monitoring key locations such as Zoo Road, Bompai, and Wambai to ensure order.
The Bureau News reports that the march comes amid growing global attention following Trump’s renewed comments on religious freedom and security in Nigeria.
