The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has reaffirmed her plan to visit her constituency for the Sallah celebration, dismissing rumors that she had canceled the trip.
In a statement released by her media team on Tuesday, the lawmaker urged her supporters to ignore speculations of a cancellation, insisting that her visit remains on course.
“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central Senatorial District will proceed as planned. Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit,” the statement read.
The senator emphasized her commitment to her statutory duties and encouraged her constituents to join her in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr.
“As the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her community and fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation. Her dedication to the people of Kogi Central is unwavering, and she looks forward to celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents,” the statement added.
She further assured the public that all necessary arrangements had been made for a peaceful and successful event.
Kogi Government’s Ban on Public Gatherings Raises Tensions
The senator’s statement comes just a day after the Kogi State Government imposed a ban on rallies and public gatherings over security concerns.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed that the ban was necessary to prevent potential security breaches that could destabilize the state.
He further alleged that intelligence reports indicated that some individuals were planning to organize violent rallies under the guise of political and religious agitations in Kogi Central.
Additionally, the government banned fishing activities in Kogi Local Government Area, linking them to recent violent clashes that resulted in the loss of two lives in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette.
While the government insists the ban is for security reasons, some political analysts believe it is a strategic move to stifle opposition voices ahead of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s planned visit.
With political tensions rising in Kogi Central, it remains to be seen how the senator’s visit will unfold amidst the government’s restrictions on public gatherings.
