The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 24-year-old woman, Wasila Abdullahi, allegedly beaten to death by her 50-year-old husband, Alhaji Nuru Isah, during a domestic dispute over Ramadan meal preparations.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakili, the incident occurred on March 1, 2025, at about 11:30 pm in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College, Bauchi.
Altercation Over Food Escalates to Tragedy
Reports indicate that the suspect, a businessman at Bauchi Central Market, attacked his second wife after an argument over food ingredients and fruits for breaking their Ramadan fast.
The altercation escalated, leading to Isah allegedly striking Wasila with a cane, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness inside their home.
She was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her dead.
Police Assure Justice, Warn Against Domestic Violence
Following the incident, police officers arrested the suspect and recovered the cane used in the assault as evidence.
“The victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary pending an autopsy,” the police statement added.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, assured the public that justice will be served, using the opportunity to emphasize the dangers of domestic violence.
“Violence within the home is a crime with serious consequences. We urge residents to report cases of domestic abuse and uphold respect, empathy, and understanding in family life,” the statement warned.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report incidents of domestic violence to help prevent further tragedies.
