NNPP Expels Abdulmumin Jibrin Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities, Unpaid Dues
The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced the expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives, citing alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet financial obligations.
Addressing journalists in Kano on Saturday, the party’s state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, accused Jibrin of repeatedly attacking the NNPP and its leadership in the media.
“If he were truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed,” Mr. Dungurawa said. “It was only when he joined the NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Representatives member. Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong.”
Reconciliation Attempts Failed
Dungurawa revealed that a reconciliation committee was initially set up to engage Jibrin after his appearance on Channels Television, where he openly criticised the NNPP.
However, according to him, a subsequent media outing confirmed that the lawmaker had “crossed the line.”
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the chairman said.
Financial Default and Legal Threat
The NNPP chairman further accused Jibrin of defaulting on the payment of party dues, saying the party would seek legal redress.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” Dungurawa warned.
Kwankwasiyya’s Influence Remains Intact
Commenting on speculations that Jibrin may defect back to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed any threat to the NNPP, stressing that politics thrives on coalitions and group strength.
He insisted that the Kwankwasiyya movement, led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, remained united and unshaken by Jibrin’s exit.
“The NNPP is bigger than any individual. Our strength lies in the collective resolve of our members and the solid foundation laid by Kwankwasiyya,” he added.
