The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State chapter, has condemned the Federal Government for releasing six months of withheld local government allocations to sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) officials. The union described the action as a violation of court rulings and a misuse of public funds.
NULGE Raises Alarm
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, NULGE State President Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, flanked by other union leaders, criticized the move as an “abuse of power” by federal officers, including the Minister of Finance, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Accountant-General.
Ogungbangbe said: “Paying local government allocations into privately opened and illegal bank accounts of politicians is unbelievable, bizarre, and unprecedented in Nigeria’s history of public administration.”
Commitment to Rule of Law
Ogungbangbe stressed that NULGE would continue to insist on the rule of law, noting that local government workers cannot recognize or cooperate with officials who have been removed from office by competent courts but are being politically imposed on the state.
He emphasized that the union will resist any attempt to legitimize what he called “illegal structures” in Osun’s local government system.
