The Bureau News reports that the Kebbi State Police Command has successfully neutralized three suspected members of the Lakurawa bandit group following a fierce exchange of gunfire in Gorun Yamma village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The operation, which took place on Friday, highlights renewed efforts by security agencies to curb violent crimes in northern Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the coordinated response followed credible intelligence reports. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kamba Division, SP Mohd Bello Lawal, immediately mobilized a joint team of policemen and local vigilantes to engage the attackers, demonstrating improved synergy between law enforcement and community security networks.

The security team engaged the heavily armed bandits in an intense gun battle that lasted several hours. At the end of the operation, three suspects were neutralized, while others escaped into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds. One unregistered red Honda motorcycle — commonly referred to as “Boko Haram” — was recovered from the scene as evidence. The success of the operation underscores ongoing collaboration between the Nigerian security forces and local communities to tackle banditry.

Commendation and Further Investigation

In a statement, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO and his team for their bravery and swift response. He noted that the officers’ quick action prevented the criminals from attacking innocent villagers. The CP directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for detailed investigation and follow-up operations.

Commitment to Public Safety

CP Sani reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. He also encouraged communities to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or the Police Emergency Contact Channels for quick intervention.
