Abuja, Nigeria — In an open letter, media mogul and politician Dele Momodu has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to heed the advice of recently sacked Senate Chief Whip, Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume, highlighting the importance of surrounding oneself with honest advisors during these challenging times.
“Your Excellency, I have decided to write this open letter to you as a concerned friend and brother. As you’re aware, I’m a member of the opposition, but you and I have had a long history together,” Momodu began. Emphasizing the value of truth, he expressed concern that truth often becomes scarce in the corridors of power, with many individuals exploiting their proximity to leadership.
Momodu detailed his worries about Nigeria’s current economic state, describing it as virtually collapsed and in urgent need of frugality. He criticized the excessive spending habits of the government, including the purchase of presidential jets, construction of grand monuments, and distribution of cash as palliatives. “Please, stop this reckless propensity for wasting scarce resources,” he implored.
Acknowledging that the President might be eyeing a second term, Momodu argued that the best assurance of re-election lies in tangible performance. He offered suggestions such as investing in vocational skills for the youth, bolstering local agriculture, and upgrading educational institutions, while cautioning against the distribution of cash to politicians, which he deemed “unhealthy and unhelpful.”
Momodu also warned against the sycophants within the National Assembly, urging Tinubu to recognize Ndume as a genuine friend. “NDUME is your best friend. Listen to him. There’s danger ahead,” he advised.
Lastly, Momodu addressed the need for discipline within the administration, referencing an incident involving the new disciple, Nyesom Wike. “You need to sanction him before he throws Nigeria into total chaos,” he stated, underscoring the necessity of maintaining order and respect within the leadership.
