Masaka, Nasarawa State – Tragedy struck in the Masaka area of Karu Local Government, Nasarawa State, as a 38-year-old man, Gabriel Iliya Magaji, reportedly took his own life after discovering his wife’s alleged involvement in extramarital affairs with his friends for financial gain.

Magaji’s lifeless body was found hanging in a classroom at Crystal School, Masaka, early on Monday morning, September 9, 2024. The discovery was made by school staff, who immediately alerted the authorities.

Confirming the incident, the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nansel Ramhan, stated, “A report was lodged by a staff member of Crystal School, Masaka, that an unidentified man was found hanging in one of the classrooms. Upon receiving the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team to the scene, where the body was recovered and taken to the General Hospital in Mararaba. The deceased was confirmed dead by a doctor, and his body was subsequently deposited in the morgue.”

Although no formal suicide note was discovered, reports from individuals familiar with the situation suggest that Magaji’s death may have been triggered by a personal crisis involving his wife. According to sources, the deceased confronted his wife after learning that she had been involved in sexual relationships with his friends, allegedly in exchange for money, which she used to provide food for the family.

One source explained, “When he confronted his wife, she reportedly admitted that she engaged in these acts because he was unable to provide for the family. She allegedly claimed that the money she received from his friends was used to buy food for their three children, as well as for Magaji himself.”

The police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Magaji’s tragic death. The case has shocked the local community, raising concerns about the mental health and emotional wellbeing of individuals facing financial and domestic challenges.
