Lagos, Nigeria – MultiChoice Nigeria has revealed plans to raise the prices of its DStv and GOtv subscription packages, effective from March 1, 2025. The price adjustment, announced in a statement to its customers on Monday, follows nearly a year since the company last reviewed its prices.
The statement, titled “Price adjustments for DStv and GOtv packages,” read:
“Dear Customer, please note that effective 1 March 2025, there will be a price adjustment on all DStv packages. This is to enable us to continue to offer our customers world-class homegrown and international content, delivered through the best technology.”
New Prices for DStv and GOtv
Under the new pricing structure, DStv subscribers will see the following increases:
- DStv Compact: From N15,700 to N19,000
- DStv Compact Plus: From N25,000 to N30,000
- DStv Premium: From N38,000 to N44,500
For GOtv subscribers, the price adjustments are as follows:
- GOtv: From N3,600 to N3,900
- GOtv Plus: From N4,850 to N5,800
- GOtv Max: From N7,800 to N8,500
- GOtv Supa: From N9,500 to N11,400
- GOtv Supa Plus: From N14,500 to N16,800
Reasons Behind the Price Hike
MultiChoice attributed the increase to the growing operational costs in Nigeria, citing factors like the depreciation of the Nigerian naira and high inflation rates. The company explained that these challenges have significantly inflated the cost of doing business in the country.
In their statement, MultiChoice emphasized the need for the price increase to maintain the quality of service and content provided to customers. This includes both locally produced and international programming, as well as investment in technology to enhance the viewing experience.
Impact on Nigerian Subscribers
The upcoming price hike comes at a time when the cost of living in Nigeria has been steadily rising, adding more pressure on households already struggling with high inflation. Many subscribers have expressed concerns about the affordability of these services, especially given the state of the economy.
As the March 2025 implementation date approaches, it remains to be seen how this price increase will impact customer retention and the overall viewership of both DStv and GOtv.
