Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of the Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano.
This decision was made due to growing concerns about student safety and repeated violations of the university’s code of conduct.
The announcement came through a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Vice President of Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba.
“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” Dr. Garba said.
Why MAAUN Closed the Hostels
According to the statement, the hostels failed to meet MAAUN’s standards for private student accommodation. Violations included:

Immoral behavior

Poor water and electricity supply

Cases of student violence

Unauthorized movement at night

Shared space with unknown tenants
“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” Garba explained.
Immediate Action Required
MAAUN directed all affected students to vacate the hostels immediately after the current semester exams. The university also warned students not to return to the premises for their own safety.
“Management is working closely with security agencies to ensure full compliance with this directive,” the statement added.
Approved Alternatives Available
The university advised students and parents to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, via vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng for a list of approved and secure hostels.
MAAUN also stressed it will not be responsible for any consequences faced by students who ignore this directive.
