The Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, Ismaila Isah, has assured that local communities in the state will soon witness massive economic transformation as mining operations and infrastructure development projects commence.
Speaking on Rapid TV in Abuja on Thursday, Isah revealed that the state government had acquired 15 mining licenses and was poised to launch full-scale mining operations aimed at revitalizing local economies across the state.
According to him, Kogi State’s abundant mineral deposits—over 32 in commercial quantities—present an unprecedented opportunity for inclusive economic growth.
“Our approach is to make these mining activities community-owned. We are encouraging communities to float cooperatives that will allow them become critical stakeholders in the mining sector,” Isah said.
He emphasized that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is determined to empower young people, positioning them at the forefront of the emerging solid minerals economy.
“We will also ensure our youths play critical roles in the mining operations. The state government has unveiled plans to train 25,000 youths to take the lead in the mineral exploration we are embarking upon,” he added.
Isah disclosed that Governor Ododo is currently in China holding high-level discussions with the international community on investment opportunities in Kogi State. The focus, he noted, includes platforms for technology transfer and manpower exchanges across sectors such as mining, agriculture, healthcare, education, power, and transportation.
“Aside from direct investment, the Governor is discussing mechanisms that will enable us to enhance our skills and technology base. We are willing to open our mining sector to investors who align with our development agenda,” he noted.
Describing the Ododo administration as a “smart government with smart people,” Isah noted that several members of the administration have over eight years of experience in governance and are well-positioned to deliver on development promises.
“We are selling the vast potentials of our state—including our fertile lands and rich mineral resources. Kogi is home to some of the most brilliant human beings in the world. We have the human resources to support investors who want to do business in Kogi State,” he said.
On agriculture, Isah said the administration has adopted a bottom-up strategy to ensure inclusive growth and transformation. He explained that the government is mechanizing agricultural production and expanding farming support.
“Last year, under our ‘One Farmer, One Hectare’ initiative, we cultivated nearly 10,000 hectares. This year, we plan to expand to 50,000 hectares. We are acquiring more tractors and modern farming equipment while securing farmlands and farmers from threats,” Isah said.
He also revealed efforts to grow the state’s health and social support systems. A new, expanded health insurance scheme will target pregnant women, infants, elderly citizens, persons with disabilities, and widows of fallen servicemen.
Isah further assured that the Ododo-led administration will carry all stakeholders along, regardless of political affiliation.
“Governor Ododo is in a hurry to make impact. He grew up on the farm and understands the struggles of the common man. His leadership style is rooted in grassroots development and equity.”
