Politicizing Security Will Scare Investors from Kebbi State, Says Governor Nasiru Idris

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris, has warned that politicizing security issues could drive away investors and slow down the state’s economic growth, despite the enormous investment opportunities available across various sectors.

Speaking while declaring open the Kebbi State Annual Conference and Economic Development Summit organized by the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum in Birnin Kebbi, the governor said certain unpatriotic politicians were using the state’s security challenges for selfish political gains instead of supporting peace and progress.

He noted that his administration had taken significant steps to address insecurity, particularly in southern Kebbi, through the procurement of over 100 patrol vehicles and 1,000 motorcycles for security agencies to strengthen the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.

“Politicizing security will only scare away investors from Kebbi State. Our state is blessed with vast agricultural potentials and abundant mineral resources. We have signed MoUs with several investors across the world who are willing to invest here,” Governor Idris said.

The governor added that his administration has made massive investments in education by renovating old schools, constructing new ones, and employing qualified teachers. He also highlighted efforts in healthcare delivery, youth empowerment, and job creation through the lifting of the employment embargo.

While assuring participants of his government’s commitment to attract more investors, Governor Idris described the summit as historic, being the first of its kind in the state, and pledged continuous collaboration with stakeholders to improve development and revenue generation.

Kebbi Elders, Lawmakers and Ministers Laud the Initiative

In his goodwill message, former governor and serving Senator, Adamu Aliero, commended the governor’s efforts in addressing insecurity but urged him to intensify measures to make the state safer for investors. Similarly, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, called on the state government to prioritize education, warning that an uneducated and growing youth population could fuel restiveness and crime.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum, Major General Muhammadu Magoro (Rtd), said the summit was designed to promote unity, peace, and sustainable growth through inclusive dialogue. He explained that the event’s theme, “Kebbi Ascends: Unlocking Opportunities for Inclusive Socio-Economic Development of Kebbi State,” reflects the state’s determination to make economic development the cornerstone of peace and stability.

According to him, discussions at the summit cut across key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, commerce, and trade, aimed at producing actionable recommendations for government and the private sector.

He emphasized that the forum’s ultimate goal is to generate implementable outcomes that would strengthen Kebbi’s socio-economic foundation and ensure inclusive progress for all citizens.
