Kebbi Government Orders Recall of Suspended Jega College of Health Students

The Kebbi State Government has approved the recall of students suspended following the October 27 unrest at the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, as the institution moves toward completing accreditation of its key academic programmes.

Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, the College Provost, Hussaini Aliyu, confirmed that more than 250 students were affected by the suspension linked to the non-accreditation of certain courses. He explained that once the accreditation exercise is concluded, the affected students will be allowed to resume studies and graduate with their National Diploma (ND).

Aliyu recalled that the students’ protest of October 27 stemmed from frustration over the non-accreditation of several academic programmes, which temporarily halted their academic progression.

He disclosed that the Kebbi State Government has approved ₦60 million for the accreditation of eight programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). According to him, the process is already at an advanced stage.

The programmes undergoing accreditation include Community Health, Public Health, Environmental Health, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Information Management, Health Education and Promotion, and Nutrition.

“We appreciate Governor Nasiru Idris for his commitment to educational reform. The accreditation process is near completion, and students will soon return to continue their academic journey,” the Provost said.

Aliyu emphasized that the College Management, in collaboration with the Governing Council and the Ministry for Higher Education, remains aligned with Governor Idris’ vision of educational transformation built on quality, accessibility, and institutional excellence.

He reaffirmed that the recall of suspended students demonstrates the administration’s dedication to ensuring that no young person is left behind in the pursuit of education in Kebbi State.
