No Area is “Un-Governable” in Kebbi, Police Refutes NBA’s Claim — The Bureau News

06 October 2025 — Nigeria News Today: The Kebbi State Police Command has firmly rejected allegations made by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kebbi Branch suggesting that nine local government areas in the state are “ungovernable.”
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, and obtained by The Bureau News, the police described the claim as false, misleading, and grossly irresponsible.
Police: Kebbi Is Safe and Governable
According to the Command, at no time or circumstance has any part of Kebbi State become inaccessible to security agencies or judicial authorities. The statement clarified that the abduction of Barrister Isiaku Danjuma — a legal practitioner based in Kebbi but an indigene of Ibeto, Niger State — occurred in Niger State, outside the jurisdiction of Kebbi.
“The victim had travelled from Niger to Abuja and joined a bus provided by the Kebbi State Government for attendees of the investiture ceremony of Barrister Hudu Lawan, SAN. On the return trip, he alighted at Kontagora and proceeded to Ibeto, where he was unfortunately abducted,” the statement noted.
Police Warn Against Misleading Public Statements
The Command condemned the NBA’s position, stating that issuing such sweeping statements without verifying facts could create unnecessary fear, embolden criminal elements, and undermine ongoing security operations.
CP Bello M. Sani, the Commissioner of Police, assured residents that Kebbi remains peaceful and that law-abiding citizens should go about their normal activities without fear. He encouraged anyone with credible information about criminal activity to report it through established channels.
Commitment to Security and Collaboration
The statement reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public order, and ensuring that criminals are apprehended and prosecuted. The Command also called for collaboration with professional bodies, community leaders, and all stakeholders to strengthen the collective fight against crime.
The Police Command further appealed to the abductors of Barrister Isiaku Danjuma to release him immediately, unconditionally, and unharmed.
