Katsina Vigilantes Arrest Bandits’ Informant ‘Paid N250,000 To Facilitate Abduction Of Over 50 Community Residents’

The Katsina State Community Watch Corps (CWC), Batsari Command, has arrested Sanusi Bature, a resident of Tsabawa village in Safana Local Government Area, for allegedly serving as an informant to bandits terrorise the region.

Bature was accused of aiding the abduction of over 50 civilians from neighbouring Surugi community, a crime for which he reportedly received ₦250,000.

In a video posted by Katsina City News, Bature admitted to aiding the bandits by providing them with intelligence about the movement of security personnel.

“My name is Sanusi Bature. I am from Tsabawa village. I served as an informant to the bandits. They used to call me on the phone to ask if the area was secure because of the presence of security agencies,” he confessed.

According to Bature, he would advise the bandits on when to avoid the area to ensure the safety of their operations. He recounted the harrowing Shirgi attack, stating: “When they invaded the Surugi community, more than 50 people were abducted, and I was given ₦250,000. In Tsabawa, which is my village, seven people were abducted by the bandits, but the victims were later rescued.”

The suspect also revealed that the bandits contacted him to deliver his share of the ransom collected from their victims.

The CWC confirmed that Bature admitted to all allegations against him during questioning.

When The Bureau Newspaper contacted the Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, he neither answered his calls nor replied to the message sent to him.
