The Qatari Ministry of Interior has announced sweeping changes to its visa regulations for Nigerian travellers, citing concerns over repeated cases of overstays.

New Visa Requirements for Nigerians

According to the ministry, the new policy requires that applicants must secure confirmed return transfers along with hotel reservations before a tourist or transit visa can be processed.

In addition, eligibility has been tightened to allow only female travellers and families to apply. Male travellers are no longer eligible unless they are accompanied by family members.

The Bureau News confirms that another condition mandates 5-star hotel bookings as a prerequisite for visa approval.

Immediate Implementation

The ministry clarified that the requirements apply with immediate effect and extend to all pending visa applications.

This development has generated debate among Nigerian travellers and the business community, as Qatar is a key destination for tourism and transit in the Gulf region.
