Kaduna Refinery’s Quick Fix Project to Deliver Economic and Social Benefits by 2024

The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) is making significant progress in its Quick Fix Project aimed at restoring the refinery’s production capacity to 60% by the end of 2024. This $741 million rehabilitation contract, awarded to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), promises to revitalize the 110,000 barrels-per-day facility, creating economic opportunities and fostering growth in local communities.

CSR Initiatives Enhance Community Support

KRPC recently showcased its commitment to its host communities by commissioning the renovated Rido Community Primary School and a solar-powered borehole in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State. These projects address critical needs such as improving educational infrastructure and tackling water scarcity.

Dr. Mustafa Sugungun, Managing Director of KRPC, emphasized the importance of these initiatives during the commissioning ceremony. Represented by Manager of Operations, Mr. Emmanuel Ajiboye, he outlined the company’s broader goals of sustainable development through youth empowerment, rural electrification, medical outreach programs, and more.

Strengthening Community Ties

Dr. Sugungun urged the Rido community to support the refinery’s rehabilitation project, highlighting how its success would not only enhance the company’s relationship with local stakeholders but also boost the economy through job creation and the promotion of small businesses.

Calls for Additional Support

The Head Teacher of Rido Primary School, Mrs. Rachael Aduwak, commended KRPC for the renovations but appealed for additional resources, including a perimeter fence, classroom furniture, and chalkboards.

“Most of our students are sitting on bare floors during class hours,” she noted, stressing the urgency of these needs.
