Fulani Herdsmen Kill 6 Police Officers In Delta, Bodies Recovered

by Ohepo Ohepo

UGHELLI A team of security agents and local vigilantes in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have recovered the corpses of some of the police officers who were killed while being drafted from IRT Abuja, PMF 51 Oghara, and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba, to rescue three missing officers in the Ohoror community in the state.
Unquestionable sources claimed that on Sunday and Monday, the combined team invaded the forest before they could retrieve some of the corpses.

You may remember that on January 24, 2024, three police officers were dispatched to a nipping point in the Ohoror community, Ughelli North, Delta State, in response to a distressed call from a man named Moses Progress, who is currently at large. Moses Progress claimed to have been robbed by suspected herdsmen while offering sacrifice to the river’s gods under a bridge near the nipping point.

The three policemen who responded to the distressed call—all inspectors—never showed up again.

A Police Inspector, who escaped from the herdsmen’s captivity a few days later while making his entry, verified the alleged killing of the six cops and the fifteen others who are still missing.

While Delta State police officials remained silent about the incident, a group of neighborhood vigilantes managed to retrieve some of the dead cops’ bodies from the jungle on Sunday and Monday.

Vanguard learned that the accused Fulani herdsmen killers had destroyed their operational huts and that six of their corpses had been found in the Agadama bush, with several more missing.

“The recovered corpses of the officers have been deposited at Mariere Central Hospital morgue in Ughelli,” stated a senior security source at the Delta State Police Command, who verified the event on condition of anonymity.

“Some Delta State government officials were accompanying the vigilante members when they were deposited at the morgue; however, it was unclear if these officials were government agents.

“They were treated at Ughelli Central Hospital after spending more than three hours at the hospital morgue during the documentation process.”

“No details yet and I will get back to you as we progress,” stated a second security source.
