In honour of this year’s Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations, the Federal Government has designated Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays.

On behalf of the federal government, this statement was made on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, issued a statement in which the minister asked Nigerians, Christians included, to imitate Jesus Christ’s selfless love and sacrifice of his death on the cross for human salvation.

In the statement, Tunde-Ojo pointed out that Easter fosters principles of love, forgiveness, and compassion—values that are critical to social harmony and cohesion—beyond its religious importance.

He urged Christians to aspire to these values because they can have a good effect on Nigeria’s socioeconomic development by promoting harmony, decreasing discord, and promoting collaboration among Nigerians.
