The Federal Government has announced a partnership with the Kaduna State Government to offer skill acquisition and reintegration programmes for minors who were pardoned following their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, made this known during a follow-up visit to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State to assess the progress of the minors’ rehabilitation.
“We are not just granting them freedom; we are offering them a future where their potential is fully realised through vocational training and access to starter packs,” Prof. Yilwatda stated.
He assured that the initiative would ensure no minor is left behind, guaranteeing successful and impactful reintegration into society.
Support for Rehabilitation and Reintegration
The minister commended Governor Uba Sani for his leadership in ensuring that the affected minors are not only reunited with their families but also provided with counseling, education, and vocational training.
He further praised Kaduna State’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting Governor Sani’s commitment to security, education, inclusivity, and empowerment.
Prof. Yilwatda also expressed gratitude to UNICEF and other development partners for their support in providing psychosocial services, vocational training, and educational reintegration for the children.
Additionally, he congratulated Governor Sani on the Federal Executive Council’s approval of key projects in Kaduna State, including:
- The establishment of the Federal University of Technology in Kachia.
- Additional military barracks to strengthen security.
- A Federal Medical Center to improve healthcare access.
Kaduna State’s Commitment to Youth Development
Governor Uba Sani, in response, acknowledged the Minister’s dedication to humanitarian causes, recognising his efforts in addressing critical social issues.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rehabilitating the minors, noting that they have undergone psychosocial therapy under the supervision of Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe.
