Sanusi II Cautions Kano Youths Against Reprisal Attacks Over Edo Killings
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged youths in Kano State to refrain from attacking non-indigenes in retaliation for the killing of 16 Hausa travelers in Uromi, Edo State.
Sanusi made the appeal on Sunday, after leading the Eid-el-Fitr prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid ground in Kano.
“We got information yesterday (Saturday evening) that youths in some areas are planning to launch reprisal attacks on non-indigenes after the Eid prayers. We are instructing them not to carry out such attacks,” he said.
The Emir emphasized that justice should be pursued through legal channels, urging authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.
Kano Government Engages Edo State Over Attack
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has dispatched a high-powered delegation to Edo State to collaborate with local authorities in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Sunday, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing justice for the victims.
“The affected individuals, who were on a legitimate journey from Port Harcourt to Uromi, deserve justice, and the Kano State Government is committed to ensuring their rights are protected.”
The statement also emphasized that the government is in communication with Edo State officials and security agencies to ensure the matter is handled appropriately.
Call for Calm
The Kano State Government urged citizens to remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions.
Additionally, the state government extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them that all necessary diplomatic and legal measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
