Violence Erupts in Elele as Rival Political Groups Clash, Three Injured

Elele town in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State descended into chaos following a violent clash between supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and those loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Sources revealed that the confrontation occurred early Thursday morning at Elele Roundabout when a group led by Odinaka Wokoro—one of the councilors recently sacked by the Supreme Court—gathered to chant solidarity songs in support of Governor Fubara. They were soon confronted by another faction led by Iheanyi Wossa, a local security commander, leading to a violent altercation.

Investigations suggest that the clash may be linked to a power struggle over revenue collection in the area, a longstanding issue that has fueled tensions among political loyalists.

At Madonna University Teaching Hospital, three individuals were seen receiving treatment for gunshot wounds sustained during the clash. A senior doctor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that all three victims had undergone surgery.

The situation in Elele remains tense as authorities work to restore calm. Residents have called on security agencies to intervene and prevent further violence.
