84 Billion Loot: Presidency To Yahaya Bello, Turn Yourself In As Soon As Possible

by Ohepo Ohepo

Following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) announcement that former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello is wanted, the presidency has issued a statement. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, took to Twitter on Thursday, advising Bello to surrender to the authorities.

“Yahaya Bello, where will you run to? It’s better you submit yourself to the EFCC and get a good lawyer,” Onanuga tweeted.

This comes after Politics Nigeria reported that the EFCC is seeking information on Bello’s whereabouts, who is implicated in alleged economic and financial crimes involving approximately N80.2 billion. The EFCC’s official Facebook page urged the public to provide any details on Bello’s location to the Commission or the nearest police station.

Compounding the situation, Bello was reportedly taken from his Abuja home by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, while EFCC operatives were positioned around his residence. The EFCC has since cautioned that interfering with their officers during the execution of their duties is a criminal offense.

Adding to the pressure, the Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, has called on Bello to turn himself in, warning that failure to do so might prompt the Federal Government to involve the military.
