A youth-focused summit organized by the Yalli Network took place on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, bringing together young people from across Kebbi State to raise awareness about climate change, renewable energy, and youth responsibility in a changing world.
Speaking at the event, Kebbi State Coordinator of the Yalli Network, Amiru Umar Faruk, said the summit aimed to broaden the understanding of climate-related issues among youths, while promoting positive habits that contribute to global climate action and a sustainable green economy.
“Youth are an indispensable asset to any nation that aspires to grow and succeed in every sector. That’s why we’ve brought them together to educate them on climate change and renewable energy, which are global trends they must align with,” Faruk said.
One of the keynote speakers, Mr. Salawudeen, delivered a paper on volunteerism, urging young people to engage in voluntary activities with international donor agencies. He emphasized that such experiences not only contribute to humanitarian causes but also position young people for global opportunities.
Also speaking at the summit, former Kebbi State Coordinator of the Yalli Network, Yusuf Ladan, encouraged youths to use social media as a tool for personal development. He warned against its misuse and advised participants to build a strong personal brand online by acquiring knowledge that fosters self-reliance.
“Irresponsible use of social media has no gains but self-destruction,” Ladan cautioned.
The event, held at the Kebbi College of Nursing Sciences, attracted participants from all 21 local government areas of the state, reinforcing the network’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development.
