The Kano State Government has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic road accident involving members of its contingent returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival, ‘Gateway 2024’, held in Ogun State.
In a statement released on behalf of the government, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and the entire sporting community in the state.
“This is a deeply painful moment for all of us. We are devastated by the news of the ghastly accident that occurred as our athletes were returning home after representing our great state with pride and commitment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire sporting community in Kano,” the Commissioner stated.
Describing the incident as a moment of collective mourning, Hon. Kwankwaso assured that the state government is fully committed to supporting the affected athletes and officials. He added that all necessary medical attention and care will be provided to ensure their recovery.
The Commissioner also commended the swift response of emergency services and medical personnel who have been attending to the victims, noting that a comprehensive report on the incident will be compiled and appropriate steps taken thereafter.
He reiterated the Kano State Government’s unwavering dedication to the welfare, safety, and dignity of athletes and officials who represent the state at both national and international sporting events.
