PDP Rejects Fuel Price Hike, Blames Tinubu Administration for Economic Hardship
Abuja, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently rejected the recent increase in the pump price of fuel, which has reportedly reached as high as N1,000 per litre in some parts of Nigeria. The opposition party described the price hike as a “brutal assault on the sensibilities and wellbeing of Nigerians,” holding the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration responsible for the worsening economic conditions.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party condemned the timing and manner of the fuel price increase, labeling it as “thoughtless” and potentially destabilizing. The PDP warned that the escalation in fuel costs could exacerbate the already dire economic situation, leading to widespread unrest across the country.
Ologunagba criticized the APC government’s management of the petroleum sector, accusing it of being secretive and corrupt. He argued that the persistent increase in fuel prices under President Bola Tinubu’s administration shows a disregard for the welfare of Nigerians, who are already struggling with the high cost of living. “The APC administration has consistently shown itself to be anti-people, unconcerned and deaf to the agonies of millions of Nigerians,” Ologunagba said. He highlighted the severe economic challenges facing the country, including a rising inflation rate, a depreciating Naira, and an unemployment rate that is expected to worsen with the latest fuel price hike.
The PDP also expressed concern over the exodus of multinational companies from Nigeria, attributing it to the APC government’s ill-conceived economic policies. The party reiterated its position that with proper management of the country’s resources and refining capacity, petrol should not sell for more than N250 per litre.
In its statement, the PDP called on President Tinubu to reverse the latest increase in fuel prices and to revisit the “life-discounting and suffocating policies” of the APC government. The party urged the administration to prioritize the welfare and security of Nigerians, which it claimed has been neglected in favor of benefiting a corrupt elite.
The PDP’s rejection of the fuel price hike reflects growing discontent with the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, which have been criticized for failing to address the needs of ordinary Nigerians.
