The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a major arms smuggling operation, seizing 488 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed inside jerrycans filled with palm oil. The successful operation also led to the arrest of the suspects involved in the illicit arms transportation.
The interception was made following an intelligence-led operation by security operatives determined to curb the rising threats of illegal arms circulation in the region. Acting on credible intelligence, the police stopped a suspicious vehicle at a checkpoint and, upon a thorough search, discovered the concealed ammunition.
A video released by the police shows officers retrieving the live rounds from jerrycans, which had been strategically filled with palm oil to evade detection. The identities of the suspects are yet to be disclosed as investigations continue.
