The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a major arms smuggling operation, seizing 488 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed inside jerrycans filled with palm oil. The successful operation also led to the arrest of the suspects involved in the illicit arms transportation.

The interception was made following an intelligence-led operation by security operatives determined to curb the rising threats of illegal arms circulation in the region. Acting on credible intelligence, the police stopped a suspicious vehicle at a checkpoint and, upon a thorough search, discovered the concealed ammunition.

A video released by the police shows officers retrieving the live rounds from jerrycans, which had been strategically filled with palm oil to evade detection. The identities of the suspects are yet to be disclosed as investigations continue.

Authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to track the origin and intended destination of the arms, with further arrests expected as the investigation unfolds.

This development comes amid heightened security concerns in the FCT and across Nigeria, where illegal arms trafficking continues to fuel criminal activities. The police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on such operations and ensuring the safety of residents.

More details to follow as the investigation progresses.
