Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo and the head of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL), has committed to combatting oil theft in the Niger Delta region, aiming to bolster the national economy. This pledge came as he received a Meritorious Award for Internal Security from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in recognition of his efforts toward maintaining peace and combating crude oil theft in the region.
During a ceremony held at his Oporoza, Gbaramatu home in Delta State, Tompolo was honored by the NUJ for his significant contributions to securing oil and gas infrastructure, thereby enhancing economic stability. The award was presented amidst recent successful operations by TSSNL, which led to the apprehension of two vessels carrying stolen crude oil.
Chris Isiguzo, the National President of the NUJ, lauded Tompolo for his exceptional role in safeguarding the oil and gas sector from vandalism and theft, which have long plagued the Niger Delta and hindered economic progress. Isiguzo highlighted the importance of Tompolo’s work in ensuring the security of Nigeria’s vital resources.
In his acceptance speech, Tompolo emphasized his dedication to Nigeria, expressing his resolve to continue fighting against economic sabotage for the betterment of the country’s economy. He called for unity and collective action to address the challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in the oil sector.
Isiguzo, speaking on behalf of the NUJ, encouraged collaboration among the media, security forces, and the Nigerian public to support Tompolo’s efforts in eradicating oil theft. He stressed the importance of shared responsibility in tackling insecurity, underscoring the role of information and intelligence sharing in achieving national peace and development.
The award ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Shuaibu Leman, the National Secretary of NUJ, and Churchill Oyowe, the Delta State NUJ Chairman, along with other executive members. The event underscored the critical role of internal security in fostering national progress and the collective effort required to safeguard Nigeria’s interests.
