Oil Producing State Status: Igala Group Applauds Sen. Echocho

by Ohepo Ohepo

The Igala Vanguard, a prominent socio-cultural organization, has extended its commendation to Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho (APC/Kogi East) for his exemplary service and dedication to the welfare of Kogi State. According to Engr. Lawrence Akpa, the convener of the group, Senator Echocho’s efforts were instrumental in achieving the Nigerian Senate’s recognition of Kogi as an oil-producing state.

Engr. Akpa praised Senator Echocho for his significant contributions to legislative discussions and his steadfast dedication to representing the interests of his constituents. He particularly noted the senator’s role in advocating for fair representation and the equitable distribution of resources for Kogi State, highlighting his legislative skill and dedication to the welfare of his community.

However, the Igala Vanguard expressed concern over the perceived marginalization of certain areas within the state, especially Ibaji, which, despite its contribution to the state’s oil revenue, seems to have been overlooked in terms of development and state support. With Kogi State benefiting from 13% derivation funds from the national treasury, the group emphasizes the critical need for focused development efforts in Ibaji and the larger Igala region.

The statement from the Igala Vanguard calls on significant state actors, including the Deputy Speaker, the Commissioner of Agriculture, and local legislators, to join forces with Senator Echocho in pushing for the rights and interests of Ibaji at both the state and national levels.

Urging immediate and concrete action, Engr. Akpa appeals to state authorities to ensure that the communities within Ibaji and the broader Igala area receive their fair share of support, ensuring they are not left behind in state development plans and resource allocation. The Igala Vanguard’s call to action underscores the importance of inclusive development and equitable resource distribution in fostering a sense of belonging and progress among all communities within Kogi State.
