EKITI, KWARA STATE — Armed terrorists have abducted four residents of Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, a town that shares a border with Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, sparking renewed fear among locals.
According to reports gathered by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the abduction has triggered panic in the area as residents fear a resurgence of coordinated attacks along the volatile Kwara–Kogi corridor.
Border Communities on Edge After Fresh Abduction
The latest kidnapping occurred just days after another group of travellers from Yagba West were abducted on Oja Egbe Market Day while returning to Omi from Egbe, underscoring rising insecurity in the region.
Local news outlet Egbe Mekun Parrot quoted community sources who observed suspicious movements around the Oke-Ere and Koro Road areas prior to the attack, adding that the Egbe–Eruku route has now become unsafe for travellers and local traders.
Residents Call for Security Reinforcement
Worried residents are calling on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance in border communities to deter further incursions by criminal gangs.
“There’s little to no visible security presence here. The kidnappers now move freely, ambushing traders and commuters,” one resident said.
Community leaders have urged the Nigerian Army and vigilante groups to mount joint operations across flashpoint areas of Kwara South to restore public confidence and prevent further abductions.
Earlier Attack on Igbonla Community
This latest abduction comes barely two days after terrorists, locally described as bandits, invaded Igbonla community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, kidnapping several residents during a midnight raid.
A source told reporters that the attackers arrived around midnight, shooting sporadically before taking away an unspecified number of villagers.
“We don’t yet know the exact number of those kidnapped, but several residents were taken. Many families have since fled to neighbouring communities for safety,” the source said.
Security operatives, including police officers and local vigilantes, have since been deployed to the affected areas in search of the abductors and to rescue the victims.
Rising Banditry in Kwara South
The Bureau News observes that banditry and kidnappings are fast spreading across rural parts of Kwara South, with border towns becoming hotspots for cross-state criminal activity. Analysts warn that without improved coordination among security agencies, the attacks could worsen in the coming months.
