Kebbi Absorbs 500 GAVI/UNICEF-Supported PHC Workers into Local Government Service

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the full absorption of 500 GAVI/UNICEF-supported Primary Health Care (PHC) staff into the unified Local Government Service, a move aimed at strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Governor Idris Moves to Strengthen Grassroots Healthcare
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Umar Dutsin-Mari, the decision reflects the administration’s determination to reform and empower the Primary Health Care system for effective and equitable service delivery at the community level.
The Commissioner explained that the governor’s approval follows the successful implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kebbi State Government and GAVI/UNICEF, which has significantly improved access to quality healthcare across the state’s 21 LGAs.
MoU Success Leads to Staff Integration
During the MoU close-out ceremony, Governor Idris commended the dedicated PHC staff who served under the GAVI/UNICEF programme and pledged to secure their future within the state’s civil service structure.
“This decision is a demonstration of our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people,” the governor said, assuring that the integrated staff would continue to deliver essential services that benefit rural communities.
191 New Recruits Approved to Boost Local Health Workforce
The statement added that the governor also approved the recruitment of an additional 191 personnel, bringing the total number of new and absorbed staff across Kebbi’s 21 local government areas to 500 health workers.
Authorities described the recruitment drive as part of an ongoing effort to bridge manpower gaps, expand access to primary healthcare, and sustain the gains recorded through the GAVI/UNICEF partnership.
