Terrorists Abduct Students in Delta, Demands N10m Ransom

A group of students going east-west in Delta state’s Ughelli North Local Government Area have been abducted by gunmen posing as Fulani herders.

The students were reportedly abducted on Friday while traveling from Calabar at the Evwreni axis of the East-West Road in a Sienna vehicle.

A security source said that on Friday night, the Sienna carrying the group of students from Calabar in Cross River State was taken over in the Evwreni axis. The kidnappers are reportedly seeking a ransom of N10 million.

Recall that on February 24, eight people were abducted from a Coaster Bus along the Ughelli-Patani route in Ughelli North by unidentified gunmen. Three of the victims, a woman and a man, were later freed. The victims were returning from Benin City, Edo State to Yenagoa.

Vanguard has been informed that Ughelli A’ division police visited the crime scene; however, it is unclear if the other three individuals were saved or released at a later time.

In a text message upon being reached, SP Edafe Bright, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, stated, “Not aware yet.”
