Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to Return September 23
Nigeria News Today – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, is expected to return to the National Assembly later this month following the completion of her six-month suspension.
Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, confirmed the development in Abuja, noting that the senator is currently on vacation in London but has already made plans to resume plenary on September 23, 2025, when the Senate reconvenes.
“Actually, she’s ready to resume her term. She’s in London. Everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption,” Giwa stated.
Senate Leadership to Welcome Her Back
Giwa further disclosed that the Senate leadership had signaled its readiness to welcome the senator back.
“We have been told that even the leadership of the Senate is ready to welcome her. So that’s the situation at the moment. There is no obstacle at all,” he assured.
Background to Suspension
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6, 2025, following allegations of insubordination after she reportedly rejected a reassignment of her designated seat during plenary.
Her suspension, based on recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, also came with the loss of aides, salaries, and office privileges.
The senator, however, has maintained that her ordeal was linked to her earlier petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation that the Senate leadership dismissed.

Observers say her return may reignite debates over parliamentary privileges, gender inclusion, and accountability within Nigeria’s legislature.
