Abuja, Nigeria — The Bureau News: The National Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its closed-door meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night, with the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum, confirming that the outcome will be made public after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Damagum, who addressed journalists briefly after the marathon session, said discussions were extensive but declined to disclose details, insisting that Nigerians would be fully briefed once the NEC meeting holds.
“We have concluded the National Caucus meeting. As you know, the NEC meeting is tomorrow. After that, we will brief you on the outcome,” Damagum said.
However, sources familiar with the discussions told The Bureau News that “little or no progress” was made during the caucus deliberations.
The Caucus meeting, which is a precursor to the NEC, brought together key stakeholders of the PDP.
The NEC meeting is expected to deliberate on crucial party matters, including internal reconciliation efforts, the party’s preparations for upcoming elections, and strategies for strengthening its position as Nigeria’s main opposition.
Party insiders suggest that tomorrow’s session may also address leadership questions and possible realignments within the PDP hierarchy.
Political observers believe the resolutions from the NEC will determine the party’s direction ahead of 2027.
