President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has firmly dismissed claims of religious persecution in Nigeria, describing them as baseless and unfounded. He made the remarks on Tuesday in Owerri, Imo State, during the launch of a book authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma titled “A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria.”

Tinubu: “No Religious Persecution in Nigeria”

The President stressed that Nigeria remains a country where Christians and Muslims coexist peacefully, rejecting allegations of systemic persecution. “There’s no religious persecution in Nigeria. It’s a lie from the pit of hell. I have always believed in good governance, and since I assumed office, I have focused on your welfare,” Tinubu said.

He further highlighted progress in the health sector, stating that Nigerians can now access well-equipped hospitals capable of treating critical illnesses such as cancer, a development he described as proof of his administration’s focus on people’s welfare.

International Reactions

The remarks came after American talk show host Bill Maher alleged in a viral clip that Christians in Nigeria were being systematically killed, describing the situation as “genocide.” The claim was amplified by international influencers, including Radio Genoa, an anti-Islamic voice on X (formerly Twitter).

Economic Outlook and Prosperity

Moving beyond the religious discourse, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that the economy had “turned a corner.” He emphasized that prosperity will soon be felt across households and urged Nigerians to remain patient and committed. “Just be patient, as all Nigerians will feel the prosperity in due time; don’t be corrupt,” he said.
