The Kebbi Sickle Cell Association (KESCA) has joined the global community in commemorating Sickle Cell Awareness Month, popularly known as #SickleSeptember, by hosting a special outreach program in Birnin Kebbi.
Theme: “Effect of Rainy Season on Warriors”
This year’s campaign focused on the unique challenges faced by sickle cell warriors during the rainy season, particularly their increased vulnerability to infections such as malaria and pneumonia, which can trigger severe crises.
Delivering a health lecture, Dr. Garba Umar Kangiwa, a consultant haematologist and sickle cell expert, outlined preventive measures and management tips to help warriors stay healthy during this period.

KESCA demonstrated its commitment by distributing:

Routine medications to assist warriors in managing their health.

Nutritious food items such as beans and eggs.

Mosquito nets to reduce malaria, one of the leading triggers of sickle cell crises.

The event was coordinated by Hajiya Khadiza Yahaya Shantali, represented by Shamsudeen Sahabi, who conveyed her message of hope and determination to keep advocating for warriors’ welfare.
