Kebbi South Stakeholders Back Gov. Idris for 2027

As the build-up to the 2027 general elections intensifies, critical stakeholders and community leaders in Kebbi South have declared full support for Governor Nasir Idris’s continuity bid. Their endorsement was made during a weekend visit to the governor by the new Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami (Sami Gomo III), alongside elders, political leaders, and religious figures from the southern senatorial zone.

Why Kebbi South Backs Gov. Idris

Speakers at the event attributed their support to the governor’s execution of high-value developmental projects across Zuru and Yauri emirates within just two years. These projects, they argued, have transformed education, infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture in the region.

Leading the delegation, Major-General (Senator) Muhammadu Magoro, the Galadiman Zuru, said the visit was to thank the governor for approving the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as Emir of Zuru and to pledge total support for his second-term bid.

He also praised Idris’s decision to finance the medical care and repatriation of the late Emir, Major-General Muhammadu Sani Sami Gomo II, from London to Zuru for burial—describing it as unprecedented in Nigeria’s governance history.

Projects That Won Support

General Magoro listed several initiatives that earned the governor broad support, including:

• Reconstruction of the long-abandoned Koko–Zuru federal road.
• Establishment of mega secondary schools in Zuru and Yauri.
• Renovation of dilapidated schools and healthcare centres.
• Provision of free education at all levels across Kebbi South.
• Distribution of free fertilisers and farm inputs to farmers.
• Economic empowerment programmes creating jobs and wealth for youth and women.

He also commended Idris’s role in reclaiming the Managing Director position of the National Hydropower Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADEC) for Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa after it was diverted to another zone.

Support from Leaders

Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Usman Ankwe, said Kebbi South had never witnessed such rapid progress under previous democratic dispensations. The new Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami, expressed gratitude to the governor for supporting his succession and assured him of continuous loyalty from Zuru emirate.

Governor Idris, visibly moved by the appreciation, reiterated his commitment to equitable distribution of developmental projects across Kebbi State. He pledged to sustain the momentum of transformation in the years ahead.

Collective Support

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida Yauri, emphasized that the unity of purpose shown by Zuru and Yauri emirates represented a collective resolution of Kebbi South to support Idris in 2027. The delegation included serving and former lawmakers, traditional rulers, business leaders, women, youth groups, and community representatives from the seven LGAs of Kebbi South.
